Two10degrees aproached us to develop a safety system for firefighters in remote areas that operates without a cellular network, provides global coverage via satellite and integrates with UHF radio equipment. When firefighters operate in forests, mountains, or other remote environments, standard GSM communication simply does not reach. A failed connection in those conditions is not a technical inconvenience, it is a life-safety risk. The system also had to integrate with existing radio infrastructure from Grace Industries, be operable while wearing gloves, and remain reliable at temperatures from -40°C to +70°C.

The GTTS-2000E serves as the foundation of the solution, utlizing Iridium as the backbone and integrating with SC500 radios and the MX900 base station from Grace Industries. The Iridium satellite network provides truly global coverage, including polar regions, with no dependency on any terrestrial network. The integration with Grace Industries' radio equipment was carefully engineered to ensure that the satellite and UHF layers work seamlessly together, giving operators a single, unified communication picture regardless of location. Robustness and simplicity of operation were central design criteria throughout.
